Question 1 answer

Firstly you need to locate the relevant boundary pegs and roughly peg out the building position (ensuring it is square) in relation to the boundary pegs.

You will need 3 pegs and 2 profile batter boards per corner of the building. Pegs need to be solid, say ex 75 x 50 approx 1.2m long, or longer depending on the height of the floor. The profile boards need to be straight say approx 2.0m long.

Erect profiles approximately 1.2m outside the perimeter of the building, ensuring the batter boards are level. Start with the highest point on the site first. Set the top of the batter board as the finished floor level or foundation level, ensuring that minimum ground clearances are achieved. Ensure you brace the profiles to keep them from moving.

Start with the longest building face, locate each corner and then set out lines at right angles from this line to locate the other building faces. Check the lines are square by using the 3-4-5 triangle rule. Repeat this process at each corner and run string lines between the known points on the profile batter boards to provide an exact setout.

Remember to always check your diagonals, to ensure your lines are square.
