Born into a long established Ruakaka family, I started school at Takahiwai, a school of only 16, moved to Ruakaka Primary and then onto Waipu High School. One of six children, my parents owned a dairy farm, so a large part of my youth involved milking cows and other farm duties. I quite enjoyed the lifestyle, having animals and looking after them. Being so close to the harbour and our beautiful coastline we could enjoy going on picnics at the beach and camping. I loved my childhood here; it certainly is the place to bring up children, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
I spent most of my youth here before moving to Australia in the 1970s. I lived and worked in Australia for 30 years being involved extensively in the hospitality industry, mostly in hotels, resorts and nightclubs/casinos in Queensland on the Gold Coast. I have a son who lives in Australia.
My commitment to excellence and outstanding customer service lead me into a role of Hotel Management. Managing a staff of up to 30 and balancing my own family commitments sharpened my organizational skills.
This of course put me in good stead for my career change into the Real Estate industry in 2004. I believed possessing the necessary people skills I learned from the hotel industry plus my ability to listen, remain positive and calm under heavy work pressure would be beneficial in the Real Estate industry.
I have worked in Real Estate with a company in Ruakaka for six years and my ability to offer sound and practical advice of the local market to both vendors and purchasers is my strength. Being a team member had well equipped me to offer an expert opinion on the current market trends. My friendly personality and my ability to get alongside with people and understand their situation has given my clients confidence and reassurance. I have trained to negotiate on behalf of our clients best interests and to keep them well informed with choices regarding their property and the market. I have been actively involved in new developments as they have grown in Ruakaka and One Tree Point where I have had great success in selling.
